My name is Jaclyn Hyde and I’m a senior at Seton. I am the youngest of four and my two sisters attended Seton before me. For as long as I can remember, I knew that I would follow in my sisters’ footsteps and attend Seton as well. I knew Seton was a great school and I expected to have a good high school experience, but what I didn’t expect is how much Seton would change my life. Throughout the three and a fourth years I have been here, Seton has helped me grow faithfully, challenged me academically, and transformed me into the leader I am today. This amazing school gives every student a chance to get involved with the countless teams and clubs. I have taken advantage of a great deal of these involvement opportunities. I’ve been on the tennis, cross country, track and field, and basketball teams. I am the president of Drama Club, a member of vocal ensemble and the show choir, I have been in four drama productions at Seton and have starred in the past two musicals. I have been a devoted member of campus ministry, Latin Club and National Honor Society. I have also been involved in Student Council and am currently the Executive Board Vice President. Being a member of all these activities, it sometimes feels as if I spend more time at Seton than I do at my own home. But you know what? I wouldn’t have it any other way. Seton helps its student find their talents and interests and encourages every student to grow into the best person she can be. Along with all the clubs and activities, Seton students are invited to attend multiple days of reflection and retreats, including Kairos. It is through such retreats that students discover their relationship with God, with others, and with themselves. Kairos for me was a life-changing experience as it gave me an entirely new outlook on my faith and the world around me. Speaking of which, Seton staff members and students give selflessly of themselves to others inside and also out of the Seton community. Every summer, the campus ministry organizes several mission trips around the nation and even the world, such as New Orleans, Guatemala and Appalachia. I went on my first mission trip this past summer where I learned that it is actually pronounced AppalaCHA. But just like my experience on Kairos, this service opportunity taught me so much about myself and about others. I learned how big of a difference a little roof building or porch painting can have on a person in need. It is through opportunities like these that Seton has helped me to grow in my faith and in my relationship with God. But despite all the great opportunities that Seton offers outside of school, we cannot forget about academics. The teachers here are not only qualified to educate, but they are truly concerned about each and every one of their students and they want the best for her. If you walk into any Seton classroom, it will be obvious to you that the students have a genuine desire to learn and to succeed. At the risk of sounding like a nerd, Seton has honestly made me love school. The enthusiastic teachers have always been there for me, as well as for all students, and have greatly contributed to my love of learning. Seton has prepared me 100% for my future and I know that, with what I have learned here, I can go out into the world and be successful, as well as accomplish all of my goals. I have been affected by Seton in almost every aspect of my life. Being apart of this amazing Seton community, I have grown as a leader, a student, a Christian, and as a person.
