I know the value of a Catholic School Education especially in urban areas. I attended a Catholic grade school from Kindergarten through 8th grade and then attended the local public High School. I never had to bring a book home from school to study. The good study habits instilled during grade school allowed me to finish all of my studies and homework during school hours and graduate as class Valedictorian. I see the dramatic difference in the quality of education today with my own children. They attend the same grade school I did and the difference among their neighborhood peers is noticeable, not just in education, but also in their behavior. My children would not have near the chance of success in life without a Catholic School education just as I wouldn't have either.
St. Anthony Catholic School is located in the Linden Heights community of East Dayton. For more than 85 years the school has been committed to educating and enriching the lives of the students and the community.
Values and Beliefs
As Catholic educators, we believe that children are influenced by their home life, Education, and a society in which Christian values are often challenged. The faculty of St. Anthony is committed to assisting parents fulfill their obligations of instilling Christian values and educating their children. In cooperation with parents, while respecting their fundamental rights as the primary educators of their children, we offer young people the best possible opportunities to develop into caring, responsible, and productive citizens.
Established in 1915, St. Anthony Catholic School is located in the Linden Heights neighborhood in East Dayton. From the beginning, St. Anthony parishioners have been dedicated to providing a Catholic education for their children.
In September 1915, the original school opened with 8 rooms housing 378 students. The Sisters of St. Francis from Oldenburg, Indiana began a long tradition of providing an excellent Catholic education to the neighborhood students. For the first 39 years, these Franciscan Sisters lived on the top floor of the school. In December 1924, the current school was completed with the addition of more classrooms and a handsome auditorium. Later, when the new convent was completed, the top floor of the school was converted from living space to classrooms. In 1950 the school kitchen was opened, originally operated by the Parish Rosary Altar Society.
In 1981, St. Anthony became the first parish in the city to provide a daycare program on the grounds. Over the years, this service has continued to expand and now offers programs that also help prepare preschoolers for transition to the full-day kindergarten classes. St. Anthony school has changed and grown over the years. It now contains 18 classrooms housing grades K-8, a gymnasium, library, computer lab, and a cafeteria that offers hot lunches daily.
With continuous developmental planning, we can offer our students greater resources and an expanded curriculum for the challenges of the 21st century.
St. Anthony is a Christ-centered educational community that teaches Catholic values through the gospel. The school comunity encourages individual growth in spirituality and learning in order to serve the total development of the child.
