Overview:

Saint James is proud to offer a rich tradition of academic excellence in a nurturing, faith-filled community. Along with our strong academic program, we encourage our students to develop personal excellence by offering a broad range of enrichment and extra-curricular activities. Saint James School serves students in kindergarten through 8th grade. The faculty and staff of Saint James are excited to have the opportunity to work with such wonderful students. We believe that every child has the right to learn in a safe and caring environment where high academic expectations, self esteem, good character, healthy lifestyles, creativity, and an appreciation for the arts are promoted. We are thrilled and honored to make a difference in the lives of the world’s future leaders. Saint James is blessed to have dynamic parent volunteers who sustain and enrich our school community by giving so generously of their time and talents.

History:

Saint James School is steeped in tradition. In 1844, Saint James Church became the first parish to be established outside the city limits in Hamilton County. The first brick schoolhouse was built in 1874 and was replaced in 1912 by what has become the core of the current school. Building additions in 1957, 1963, and 1994 developed into the present facility. Since 1874, Saint James School has been providing a quality education for children of White Oak and the surrounding area. Saint James has been recognized locally and nationally for its continuous success in preparing children spiritually and academically for the challenges of their future. This success is especially evidenced by the incredible number of students whose parents, grandparents, and great grandparents have attended Saint James School. Saint James has a proud tradition of academic excellence. Saint James has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence four times by the United States Department of Education. Saint James is the only elementary school in the nation to have been awarded this honor four times. Saint James was also awarded the Catholic Schools for Tomorrow Award in technology by the NCEA in the year 2000. Through an excellent Religious Education program and a superior core curriculum, Saint James continues its excellence while developing new ways to meet the individual needs of our students.

Mission Statement:

As a Catholic faith community, Saint James School is dedicated to supporting families by providing an atmosphere which will allow their children to develop spiritually, academically, socially, emotionally, physically and aesthetically. Through instruction in basic skills and higher level thinking skills, the students will become literate, self-disciplined, faith-filled, independent, and confident learners who demonstrate positive attitudes, appropriate social/emotional behavior, and strive to live as children of God.
